(SAINTE GENEVIEVE, MISSOURI) — Nestled just one hour south of St. Louis, Missouri sits a historic river town. Filled with historic buildings, local restaurants, boutiques, dessert shops and multiple lodging options, Ste. Genevieve is a lovely, walkable town built for family travel or romantic getaways.
Rachel and I enjoyed the latter this summer, with an overnight stay at Audubon’s – a 7-room boutique hotel.
Inside on the main floor you’ll find the restaurant which serves brunch, lunch and dinner. Hotel Audubon is located within the building, but slightly separated from where the restaurant is.
The boutique hotel experience is intimate, and a nice refresh from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. The room itself was very spacious, with a comfortable king bed and a nice bathroom within the room. The paintings on the wall were beautiful, and overall it’s a very nice hotel.
Downstairs for dinner we enjoyed dinner with steak, bacon-wrapped shrimp, soup and a flatbread. Of course I had to enjoy a special cocktail, made right at the restaurant’s bar. Dinner was delicious, and the perfect scene setter for what comes next.
Head through the secret red door just by the bar and find yourself in an underground speakeasy, Midnight Slip.
We enjoyed live music in an intimate setting; we’ve never experienced something like this. We heard stories from the artists and listened to country songs, both released and unreleased, that made the experience that much more special. This was the highlight of our overnight stay, and is something we’d love to do again.
After a restful night’s sleep, head back downstairs to the restaurant in the morning for… brunch! My sandwich with avocado was delicious, and Rachel really enjoyed her french toast. The perfect way to end a successful trip, and fill up before hitting the road.
Thanks to the team at Audubon’s for a lovely stay, filled with special memories and great times. We’d highly recommend a visit here, and can’t wait to experience Ste. Genevieve with you all again soon!
